Chowning
One-Name Study

including Chewning, Tuning, Chowne, et. al.

Welcome!

My interest in genealogy started at an early age listening to my grandparents tell family stories that had been passed down through the generations. When I heard them, I accepted those stories at face value but as I gained some experience in genealogy, I wondered if there was any truth in them at all! Stories like the 3 brothers that migrated to Kentucky after the Revolutionary War, or that Chowning is the correct spelling but it should be pronounced Chewning, or that all the Chownings in the USA are related to one another. While I didn't know it at the time, gathering the data to accurately weigh these stories was the beginning of my one-name study.

This website, like the study itself, is a work in-progress, please check back often for updates. For information on study status and general information about the data you'll find here, please see Study Overview.
